Autoimmune Antibody Profile - Gastric, Liver & Smooth Muscle

Our Autoimmune Antibody Profile is a private blood test that measures four different types of antibodies associated with autoimmune activity involving the stomach, liver and other tissues.

This profile combines Gastric Parietal Cell Antibodies, Smooth Muscle Antibodies, Mitochondrial Antibodies and Liver Kidney Microsomal Antibodies into one laboratory panel.

Previously available as individual tests, these antibodies are now offered together under the TISA profile.

What Does This Blood Test Include?

Gastric Parietal Cell Antibodies (GASP)

These antibodies target parietal cells found in the lining of the stomach. They may be associated with autoimmune gastritis and can also be detected in some individuals without these conditions.

Smooth Muscle Antibodies (ASMO)

These antibodies react with components of smooth muscle tissue. They may be found in association with certain autoimmune liver conditions, including autoimmune hepatitis, although they are not specific to one condition.

Mitochondrial Antibodies (AMIT)

These antibodies target components within mitochondria. Certain antimitochondrial antibodies are associated with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), an autoimmune liver condition.

Liver Kidney Microsomal Antibodies (LKM)

These antibodies target specific proteins found in liver and kidney cells. Certain LKM antibodies may be associated with autoimmune hepatitis, including type 2 autoimmune hepatitis.

Understanding Your Results

Your sample will be analysed by a specialist laboratory, with results provided in a laboratory report.

The presence or absence of these antibodies does not, on its own, confirm or exclude an autoimmune condition. Results should be considered alongside medical history, symptoms and any other relevant investigations by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
