Are commercial juice cleanses good for resetting the gut?

From a medical standpoint, commercial juice cleanses are generally not recommended for gut health. When fruits and vegetables are juiced, the beneficial dietary fibre is discarded. Fibre is the exact nutrient required to bulk stool, support peristalsis, and feed the microbiome. Drinking high-sugar, fibre-free juices can cause rapid blood sugar spikes, may lead to loose stools or cramping, and deprives your gut microbes of the complex carbohydrates they need to produce health-promoting short-chain fatty acids. Whole, blended, or cooked plant foods are vastly superior.

Why do I feel more bloated after eating high-fibre gut foods?

If your gut microbiome is unaccustomed to high amounts of fibre, or if you increase your fibre intake too quickly without enough water, your resident gut bacteria will rapidly ferment these new substrates, producing excess hydrogen, methane, or carbon dioxide gas. This frequently leads to temporary bloating, abdominal distension, and flatulence. To prevent this, increase your fibre portion sizes very gradually over a period of several weeks, ensure you drink at least 1.5 to 2 litres of water daily, and opt for thoroughly cooked vegetables rather than large quantities of raw produce.
