Laboratory Notes Our late afternoon and evening salivary cortisol levels are quoted with 'cut off' levels, rather than ranges. The figure will be quoted therefore as 'less than' (with the symbol <) because it is not possible to record with any degree of confidence very low levels of cortisol. The margin of error is too high. This statement applies to most commonly used cortisol testing processes - if the level of cortisol is very low (which indeed is a normal situation at the end of the day) an absolute lower limit should not be quoted because any level recorded below that 'cut off' is acceptable, and very low values recorded may not be as low as they appear. In practice this makes no difference to interpretation of results. A low level, approaching zero, is acceptable, whereas a higher level (above the laboratory threshold or 'cut off') may indicate Cushing's disease.

      A: No you do not require a Doctor’s Referral, we provide one when you have placed an order. This is free of charge, and a consultation is not required unless stated on certain tests.

      A: Yes, the process is that simple.

    1. Q: How soon will I get my results?

      A: The turnaround times are clearly stated in working days on all of our blood test pages, this is the timeframe that we estimate for turnaround of results.

    1. Q: Do I get a copy of my results?

      A: You will receive a PDF copy of your laboratory certificate which prints onto A4 paper. If you would like a paper copy, let us know and we will post one out to you.

    1. Q: Pathology points

      A: Pathology points are points we provide when purchasing a test to add more value to your order. Each test will show how many Pathology Points you will earn if purchased. Each Pathology Point is worth £1.00 and can only be redeemed against future blood test orders.

    1. Q: What is the difference between reported and unreported results?

      A: Reported results will be sent to the GP for comment, this process can take up to two working days to complete in addition to the stated turnaround time for results. If you select unreported results, then you choose not to have the interpretation of our GP and they will be sent directly to you. This is advisable if you already have a specialist to share the results with or are able to interpret them yourself. In the event of any results being of a critical nature we will always be in contact to make you aware of this.

Despatch Guarantee
We will send your testing kit out the same day as we receive your order if we receive by 3pm Mondays through to Fridays, excluding bank holidays.

Change of Mind Guarantee
Should you change your mind about testing before we dispatch your test kit we can provide you with a full refund.

Returns Guarantee
If we have dispatched your kit, you can return it to our returns address below within 30 days for a full refund if it is unused and undamaged. If it is incomplete, used or damaged in any way we may deduct a fee of £5. If you have chosen for us to dispatch your kit to you by express delivery, we will deduct the charge for that. You may keep the A6 card insert with the attached information card and promotional pathology point chocolate coin with our compliments.

If you wish to cancel your order after 30 days have passed from when the order is placed you can do so by returning it to our returns address below. We are unable to refund you but can credit you with the equivalent value of your purchase in Pathology Points which can be used for future pathology testing for yourself or a guest on any participating Blue Horizon Medicals website. If your kit is returned, incomplete, used or damaged in any way, we may deduct the equivalent of £5 in Pathology Points.

Phlebotomy Money Back Guarantee
If you elect to use our nurse home visit service or BMI hospital phlebotomy service we will guarantee you your money back if the nurse or support staff do not manage to successfully collect a sample. We can however only offer this money back phlebotomy guarantee once per patient to make the guarantee fair for all.

Finger-Prick Try Again Guarantee
If you are not successful in obtaining a viable finger prick sample (1 in 10 are unsuccessful) we find that in situations where finger-prick instructions have been followed correctly and success has not been met, then a second attempt will most likely meet with the same fate. But the choice is yours – so if you want to take this risk we can send out another finger-prick kit free of charge for you, but if you fail again and request a refund we will need to deduct an administration charge of £5.
Alternatively of course we can look at phlebotomy options for you such as a nurse visit, attendance at a BMI hospital or you can arrange your own vacutainer sample collection and we won’t charge you for the failed finger-prick kit.

One year usage Guarantee
You have up to one year from when you have purchased the kit to return it to the Laboratory in the supplied envelope. After a year has expired if you still would like your test please contact us and we’ll see what we can do for you. We may just need to check expiry dates of batch components.

Refunds Guarantee
Refund requests must be made by email to assistance@bluehorizonmedicals within the timeframes stated above together with a reason for the request. Unused kits should be sent to Blue Horizon Medicals, Tavyside Health Centre, Abbey Rise, Tavistock PL19 9FD. Please do not use the supplied envelopes as these go to the laboratory and may incur further charges. We guarantee that any refunds or pathology points due to be credited will be done so within seven working days of our receipt of the kit.
